Hillcat Women Weather the Crimson Storm, 77-64

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State women's basketball team registered a 77-64 victory over Southern Nazarene on Tuesday night at the Claremore Expo.
 
The Hillcats led wire-to-wire in the second stanza, hitting a season- high 12 three pointers. RSU shot 50 percent from behind the arc and a season-high 80.8 percent from the charity stripe, converting 21-26 attempts.
 
Bunch led the balanced charge for RSU with a career-high 17 points and five assists. Amari Jones registered her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Mikaila Newton tallied 14 points while Jade Hardy and Breanna Burford each registered 10 points.
 
In the first half, Bunch ignited a 12-0 run with a jumper while Newton closed out the spurt with a trey. Abby Boyd silenced the Hillcats seven-minute scoring stretch with a layup but RSU pushed the lead to 12 points with 1:38 to play in the half. The Crimson Storm closed the half with a 5-0 run and the Hillcats took a 36-29 lead into the locker room at intermission.
 
The Crimson Storm battled throughout the second frame, using an 8-0 run at the 12 minute mark to cut the deficit to four points. The Hillcats answered with a trey from Kami Bunch to give RSU a seven-point cushion.  The Hillcats final nine points of the contest came from the free throw line. RSU closed out their final home contest of 2014, converting nine of its final 10 attempts at the charity stripe.   
 
Aminata Fall led all scorers with 33 points and 10 rebounds, adding a game-high six blocks for SNU.
 
Rogers State (2-6) will open Heartland Conference play on the road on Thursday night at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and fans can listen to the game live on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live and on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
