Hillcats Edge Jets in Season Finale

WICHITA, Kan.-The Rogers State women's soccer team closed out the 2014 slate with a 1-0 win over Heartland Conference opponent Newman Saturday night.
 
The Hillcats took the one-goal advantage just before halftime and held on for the road win. Senior Blair Thomas closed out her career with her team-leading fifth assist of the year, dishing the ball to junior Devin Stokes who fired a shot into the net from 18 yards out in the 41st minute. It was the Owasso, Oklahoma native's second goal of the season and her first career game-winning goal.  
 
The Jets edged the Hillcats in shots on goal, taking four shots while the Hillcats managed three on frame.  Teri Cocke tallied the complete-game shutout in goal with four saves while Haley Borchers took the loss with two saves.
 
Rogers State (3-14, 3-5 HC) rounds out the program's second season in the Heartland Conference and Head Coach Heather Cato completed her first season at the helm of the women's squad while senior Blair Thomas completes her four-year career in Hillcat red and navy. The Grove, Oklahoma native completed her senior season, leading the team in goals (8), assists (5) and points (21).  She started in all 17 games and tallied two game-winning goals.
