LUBBOCK, Texas – The Rogers State women's basketball team led by eight points in the first half but could not match the high-powered Lubbock Christian University offense the rest of the way snapping a two-game win streak with a 94-75 loss in Heartland Conference action Thursday at the Rip Griffin Center.
Kami Bunch dished out three assists for RSU becoming the fourth player in program history to pass the 100-assist mark in a single season and now has 101 on the year.
The Hillcats jumped to an early 13-5 lead hitting three triples as Taylor Jeffs, Katy Harsen, and Breanna Burford all connected from behind the arc in the first five minutes of the game.
RSU kept its eight-point advantage 18-10 but that quickly dissipated as the Hillcats could not maintain the hot-start shooting and the Lady Chaps used an extended run taking their first lead of the game 31-28 after a pair of three pointers by Kelsey Hoppel.
LCU then closed the half holding RSU to only four points over the final seven minutes to take a 45-34 lead into intermission.
The Hillcats cut the deficit down to five 48-43 two minutes into the second half getting a pair of free throws from Clarissa Cannon and later got within four 52-48.
The Lady Chaps dominated from that point scoring 20 of the next 25 points and swelled the lead to as many as 25 after one of Haley Burton's six three-point baskets with less than eight minutes to play.
LCU closed the game 94-75 getting its 16th-consecutive victory to remain undefeated at 13-0 in the Heartland Conference paced by 28 points from Burton. Four other Lady Chap players hit double figures and the team hit 14-of-25 from long range.
Harsen was one of three Hillcats to hit double-digit scoring with a team-high 17 points while Cannon added 15, of which seven came from the free throw line. Burford came off the bench to net 11 points.
