BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – DaNara Day and the Rogers State women's basketball team tallied a 95-88 victory over Oklahoma Wesleyan on Tuesday night at The Nest.
Day led the Cats to victory while breaking the single-game scoring record with 36 points on the night. She is the third Hillcat this season to break the single-game scoring record. Three other Hillcats reached double digit scoring with Clarissa Cannon tallying 18 points, Katy Harsen pouring in 14 points and Kami Bunch rounding out the group with 12 points.
Day ended the first half with a trey from the top of the arc in the closing seconds to cut the RSU deficit to 54-45 at intermission. The junior from Tulsa, Okla. tallied 16 points in the first stanza.
RSU chipped away at the deficit throughout the second stanza and took the lead at the 4:53 mark with a 3-pointer by Jade Hardy from the left elbow to make it an 81-79 game. RSU held the lead the rest of the way. Kami Bunch sealed the win with a banked 3-pointer as the shot clock expired, stretching the Hillcat advantage to 91-85 with 28 seconds to play.
Kayla Morgan and Megan Jones led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 19 points each. OKWU edged the Hillcats on the boards 33-29. RSU tallied 13 steals while the Eagles committed 22 turnovers on the night.
Rogers State (3-7) returns to action on Thursday and Saturday for a pair of Heartland Conference games before they take a week off for Holiday Break. On Thursday, RSU will take on Texas A&M International in Laredo, Texas at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Cats will round out the road trip against St. Mary's at 1 p.m. in San Antonio.
