ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Rogers State men's soccer team closed out the 2013 season on the road with a 3-1 loss to No. 4-ranked Lindenwood University Sunday at Hunter Stadium.
The host Lions began the scoring in the eighth minute of play as Ignacio Romero found the back of the net for the sixth time this season on an assist by Aris Nukic giving LU a 1-0 advantage. LU struck again in the 46th minute of the second half to take a 2-0 lead.
But the Hillcats answered as Nathan Garcia found the net for his first goal of 2013. Kevin Howard was on the assist, the third of the season for the Hillcat defender, as RSU trailed 2-1 in the 75th minute.
The Lions earned an insurance goal in the 80th minute of action as Hrvoje Bagaric found Mitchell Hunt to give LU the 3-1 victory.
Lindenwood (16-0-2) outshot the Hillcats 21-7 as the Lions totaled 15 shots on frame in front of the 150 in attendance Sunday afternoon.
Rogers State (6-11-1) had its season come to a close with the loss Sunday. The contest was the also the final appearance for seniors Mathew Levenson and Garron Hayes in the Hillcat red and blue.
