CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State fell to Texas-Permian Basin 2-1 Saturday night at Soldier Field despite the Hillcats outshooting the Falcons.
RSU put the first dent in the scoreboard in the 10th minute on a run started by Necas Collins. The Kingston, Jamaica native used a heel flick along the right sideline to find the feet of Niall Masterson. Masterson delivered a strong cross from the right corner finding the feet of Danko Kenjic and the native of Zemun, Serbia fired the shot past the UTPB keeper for the 1-0 lead. The goal was the third for Kenjic this season.
The Falcons didn't waste time in response as UTPB's Nathan Cotterell delivered a cross of his own from 26 yards away finding Tyler Gibson's foot as the ball snuck past the Hillcat keeper tying the game at 1-1 in the 13th minute.
The score held firm until the 59th minute when a strike by Rafael Borges from 32 yards away found the back post past RSU reserve keeper Mitchell Penton to push the Falcons ahead 2-1.
RSU outshot the Falcons 15-10 as the Hillcats fired seven shots in the second stanza. The Cats forced UTPB goalkeeper Craig Branum to make six saves over the course of 90 minutes.
