Hillcats Top Braves in Overtime, 2-1

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Freshman Taylor Hallford scored in the 98th minute of play to lift the Rogers State women's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime victory over Ottawa (Kan.) on Thursday afternoon at Soldier Field.

Hallford's game-winning goal came with just two minutes to play in the first overtime period. Redshirt freshman Rachel Coen dribbled down the line and into the box. She drew the keeper off her line and then slotted the ball across the goal to Hallford who fought off two defenders and passed it into the net for the win.

RSU survived a scare in the final minute of regulation to force extra time as the Braves earned a free kick as time ran down. OU played the ball into the box, getting off several shots during a defensive scramble, but RSU keeper Jordan Harris and the Hillcat back line kept them scoreless.

Freshman Carley Johnson gave the Cats a 1-0 advantage in the opening stanza as she headed the ball into the net off a Veronica Subu corner kick in the 13th minute of the game.

The Braves earned the equalizer in the 76th minute as Destinee Evans dribbled down the line and crossed the ball into the box for MacKenna Stang who headed it near post past the keeper.

The Hillcats had plenty of opportunities to score throughout the game but were unable to capitalize. RSU took 22 shots while firing 15 of them on frame in the contest.

Harris earned the complete game victory in goal for the Hillcats as she allowed one goal while nabbing nine saves.

Rogers State (3-1) will return to action on Tuesday, September 4 as the Cats travel to Bartlesville to take on regional rival Oklahoma Wesleyan at 2 p.m.
