OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Rogers State softball team split a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader date versus Mid-America Christian at Jack Allen Field.
RSU took the opening game, 4-3, over the Lady Evangels despite the Cats being outhit 10-8. MACU run-ruled the Hillcats 8-0 in the nightcap behind a five-inning, perfect game performance from Jackie Hilterbran.
GAME ONE
The Lady Evangels jumped ahead 1-0 behind a RBI double by Ashtin Simeroth scoring Ashlee Dodson in the first inning. Katrina Loy's RBI single in the top of the second tied the game 1-1.
In the fourth inning, RSU posted three runs on three hits building a lead the host Lady Evangels couldn't overcome. The scoring began on a single by Loy scoring Taran Threet from second. Two batters later, Kaitlin McCool's single to center plated two runs and put the Cats up 4-1.
MACU totaled two runs over the final two innings as the Hillcats allowed five hits but RSU was able to hold off the Lady Evangels for the 4-3 victory.
Loy went 2-for-2 for the Hillcats with two RBI while drawing one walk for the Cats. Justine Kodesh made the most of her opportunity in the lineup as the designate player batting 2-for-3 while plating a run.
Laura Fleck (28-13) earned the win as she fanned three batters while giving up three earned runs on ten hits.
Amber Tinney (8-18) registered the loss for MACU as she gave up four runs, three earned, on eight hits and issued three walks.
GAME TWO
The nightcap was one the Hillcats wish to erase from their memory as RSU was run-ruled 8-0. MACU pitcher Jackie Hilterbran registered the five inning, perfect game victory as she fanned just one RSU batter.
Hilterbran recorded the perfect game as she threw just 43 total pitches including two fly outs and eight ground outs.
In contrast the Hillcats pair of pitchers totaled 82 pitches and faced 22 batters. Fleck (28-14) received the loss for the Cats after throwing 3.1 innings allowing eight earned runs on 12 hits and fanned two batters. Linsey Curtis pitched two-thirds of an inning allowing one hit.
Mid-America Christian (14-35, 5-21) pitcher Jackie Hilterbran moves to 3-14 on the season with the win over the Hillcats as the five inning contest lasted 54 minutes.
Rogers State (36-16, 9-12) will travel to Alva, Okla. on Thursday to face Northwestern Oklahoma State at 2 p.m. in a doubleheader conference affair.
