Hillcats Fall to No. 1 Stars, 61-50

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Rogers State women scratched and clawed but eventually would fall to No. 1 Oklahoma City, 61-50, inside Abe Lemons Arena Thursday night.

The Hillcats fell behind quickly to the Stars in the first half, building a 13 point lead with 6:45 to go in the opening period. OCU entered with the 32-17 halftime advantage.

The Stars built their largest lead of the game at the 17:16 mark in the second half up by 18 over RSU. Coach Amy Williams' squad answered as the Cats pounced the Stars for a 10-0 run over three minutes to trim the deficit to eight points.

The Cats kept it close until OCU was able to claim a 10 point lead with 5:28 to go and never relinquished the double-digit advantage.

Desiree Jeffries was the lone Star to reach double-figure scoring with 12 points. Tiffany Goldwire hauled in 10 boards as the Stars were outrebounded by the Hillcats 43-39.

Oklahoma City (24-1, 18-1) hit 25 percent on treys and knocked in only 50 percent from the charity stripe.

Gianna Woods fell one rebound shy of her tenth double-double as the senior forward led the Cats with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Sierra Cornwell tallied 12 points to go with a career-high three blocks.

RSU hit just 11.1 percent from long distance for a 32.8 percentage from the field. The Cats turned the ball over 19 times resulting in 13 OCU steals.
