Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Hillcat Hopes Dashed by Stars, 65-64

OKLAHOMA CITY – A layup and foul with under 10 seconds remaining proved the difference Thursday night as the Oklahoma City Stars topped the Rogers State men, 65-64, inside Abe Lemons Arena.

It was a similar story on Jan. 5 as the Cats nailed a 3-pointer with 3.5 seconds to go in Claremore to top the Stars. This time it was a role reversal, as the Stars hit a conventional three-point play to hand the Cats their second consecutive loss.

Orlan Jackman laid the ball high off the glass and was fouled with eight seconds remaining to tie the contest at 64-64. The London, England native drilled the free shot to put OCU ahead by one.

RSU quickly inbounded the ball to Kendrell Thompson who drove the distance of the court but his shot attempt amidst contact hit off the glass and rolled off the front of the rim preventing a Cardiac Cats outcome.

The Cats held an 11 point advantage with 2:36 to go in the first half and led the Stars at intermission 30-23. But the Stars outscored the Hillcats in the second stanza 42-34.

Jackman registered a double-double tallying a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds. Charlton Jones finished with 10 points for the Stars.

Oklahoma City (12-11, 9-10) connected on 39 percent from the field including 33.3 percent from behind the arc as the Stars dished out 12 assists.

Two Hillcats totaled double-digits in the scoring column with Thompson finishing with 11 points and Donald Williams with 10. Meneptha Darden pulled in 10 boards as the Cats won the battle of the boards, 36-34.

RSU shot 78.6 percent from the charity stripe while shooting below the team average of 50 percent from the field for the second consecutive game.

Rogers State (20-6, 13-6) returns to the Claremore Expo on Saturday to face Mid-America Christian at 5 p.m. The game will be carried with live video streaming at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
