CLAREMORE, Okla. – In his second game in a Hillcat uniform Ken Holdman led No. 5 Rogers State in scoring with 21 points to lead the home squad in an Election Day Special topping Southwestern Christian (Okla.), 78-54, inside the Claremore Expo.
The Oral Roberts transfer shot 8-of-13 from the field including 2-of-3 from behind the arc as RSU hit 34.8 percent from 3-point range.
At the 11:54 mark in the first half RSU led 13-11 but went on a 20-0 run over the next five minutes. Entering the half the Hillcats held the advantage 40-24.
SCU came out of the gate following the intermission to trim the Hillcat lead to 50-45 with 11:26 to go. RSU was too much to handle as the Cats closed out the game outscoring the Eagles 31-12.
Kendrell Thompson totaled 15 points for the Hillcats as fellow senior posted 11 points. Freshman Branden Brantley came off the bench to add 10 points in 15 minutes of play. The Booker T. Washington (Okla.) native went 4-of-5 from the field with two steals and an assist.
RSU outscored the Eagles 26-5 off the bench despite Southwestern Christian (2-2) out-rebounding the Hillcats 45-34. Coach Justin Barkley's squad nabbed 15 steals forcing the Eagles into 29 turnovers.
Rogers State (2-0) welcomes former Sooner Athletic Conference foe Northwestern Oklahoma State to the Claremore Expo Saturday, Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. for Rogers State Homecoming. RSU Radio 91.3FM will broadcast the game along with live video streaming provided on www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
