Hillcats End Season in Shootout

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State women's soccer team's season came to an end on Friday night as the Hillcats lost in a penalty kick shootout to John Brown in the opening round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at Soldier Field.

After battling the Golden Eagles to a 1-1 draw through regulation and two overtime periods, RSU lost the penalty kick shootout 4-3, ending its season at the SAC Tournament. RSU finishes the year 12-3-3 overall, tied with the inaugural team from 2007 for the least amount of losses in a season.

JBU tallied a 1-0 lead just before halftime as Cheyenne Padgett found the back of the net amongst a scramble in the box in the 41st minute of the game.

The Hillcats controlled much of the second half, firing 14 shots with nine on frame. With time winding down the Hillcats earned a corner kick. Senior Veronica Subu served the ball into the box where sophomore Jordan Beasley headed the ball past the keeper near post with just six minutes to play in the game, eventually forcing overtime.

Both teams had opportunities in extra time but the goalkeepers stole the show, each coming up with huge saves.

RSU goalkeeper Jordan Harris made eight saves while allowing one goal. JBU keeper Kristen Morency tallied 11 saves and gave up one goal.

Three Hillcat seniors played their final game in red and blue. Lauren Hager, Veronica Subu and Jessica Turner made invaluable contributions to the RSU soccer program. They combined to win 47 games over the last four years, earning four consecutive postseason appearances.
