Hillcats Bounce Lady Evangels, 3-0

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Three different Rogers State women's soccer players found the back of the net on Friday night as the Hillcats defeated Mid-America Christian 3-0 at Soldier Field.

The win snapped a two-game losing skid for the Cats and was the team's first Sooner Athletic Conference victory of the season.

Sophomore Tara Garrett wasted no time putting RSU on the scoreboard as she fired the ball into the back of the net off a free kick from 35 yards out in the 31st second of the game.

RSU doubled its lead in the 20th minute as sophomore Jordan Beasley scored her fifth goal of the season. Freshman Taylor Hallford threaded the ball through the defense to Beasley who slotted it back post past the keeper.

The Cats allowed the Lady Evangels just one shot in the opening stanza and took a 2-0 lead into the locker room at the break.

Junior Mikella Schexnider sealed the win in the 73rd minute, scoring her second goal of the week. Raquel Chavez dribbled through the defense in the box and dished the ball to Schexnider who beat the keeper near post.

The Hillcats blasted 31 shot in the game, putting 11 of them on frame. Despite making eight saves, Melissa Dobie was tagged with the loss as she allowed three goals.

Jordan Harris made one save for the Hillcats and earned the win in goal. RSU allowed MACU just five shots in the contest.

Rogers State (8-3, 1-2) will take a West Texas holiday as the Cats travel to Lubbock Christian on Thursday at 2 p.m. and Wayland Baptist on Saturday at 11 a.m.
