CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State women's basketball team dropped its second straight game on Monday afternoon at the Claremore Expo as Oklahoma Baptist registered a 95-84 victory over the Hillcats.
RSU opened the second frame with a 12-3 run to take a 13-point lead. The Hillcat lead was short lived as the Lady Bison used a 15-2 spurt of their own to knot the game 60-60 with 13 minutes to play. OBU owned the lead the rest of the way. The Lady Bison's sharp shooting in the second half led them past the Cats. OBU drained 13 treys on the night and nine of them came in the second frame. OBU outpaced the Cats 53-38 in the second half as Lauren Crenshaw led all scorers with 26 points. Crenshaw converted 4-of-6 shots from long distance and was 9-of-11 from the floor. RSU cut the deficit to five points with 50 seconds to play but OBU converted all eight of its free throws down the stretch, helping secure the win. OBU was 14-of-14 from the charity stripe in the second half.
The teams traded buckets to open the game and the Hillcats earned some breathing room with a 7-0 run capped off with a trey from the corner by Taylor Jeffs to give the Cats a 30-19 advantage. The double digit lead did not last long as the Lady Bison cut the deficit to four points at intermission.
Gianna Wood led the Hillcats with her third double-double of the season, scoring 19 points and adding 13 rebounds. Leah Smith contributed 16 points while Logan Froese and Ariani Silva chipped in 12 points apiece. Sierra Cornwell rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points.
The Hillcats won the battle on the boards 34-28 and nabbed 13 steals.
Rogers State (9-5, 3-3) returns to the court on Thursday as the Hillcat women host No. 1 Oklahoma City at the Claremore Expo. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be streamed live at www.rsuhillcat.com/live.
