CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State baseball team won a pair of road victories at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon to claim the three game serious win.
The Hillcats cruised past the Drovers in the opener 10-1 and claimed a 5-3 victory in the nightcap.
GAME ONE
The Hillcats ran away with the victory in game one as they opened the contest with four runs in the first. Colton West hit a single to left field and plated Brandt Barnes who led off the inning with a single. Designated hitter Cody Campbell hit a two-RBI double that sent West and Randy Ramirez home. Keith Poverud rounded out the scoring with a single to center field and Campbell scored.
A pair of doubles by Cody and Colton Campbell increased the Hillcats lead to 5-0 in the third inning.
The Drovers posted their lone run of the game in the fourth inning but the Hillcat continued to dominate at the plate as they scored runs in each of the last three innings. Poverud hit an RBI single in the fifth. Cody Campbell hit a two-run homer in the sixth and the Cats plated a pair of runs off a sacrifice fly and a pass ball in the seventh.
Tyler Garner registered the win on the mound for the Hillcats. The junior hurler pitched five innings and allowed one run on five hits while fanning three hitters. Tyler Brown closed out the contest as he tossed two scoreless innings and allowed one hit.
Barnes and Campbell recorded three hits apiece.
GAME TWO
RSU jump out to an early lead in the nightcap. Barnes and Cade McKewon hit back-to-back singles to start the first inning. Colton west followed with a single sending Barnes home. Cody Campbell hit a sacrifice fly to score McKewon and a single by Kevin Radford allowed West to score as the Hillcats took a 3-0 lead into the second.
Both teams posted a pair of runs in the third and the Drovers recorded one run in the fourth. However, the Hillcats held USAO scoreless the rest of the way to pick up the 5-3 victory and the series win.
Jim Miner tossed three and two third innings and allowed three runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Eric Faust earned the win as he closed out the contest and allowed two hits while striking out two hitters.
Radford went 3-for-3 with three RBI in the nightcap.
Rogers State (31-6, 12-4) will return to conference action on Tuesday at Hillcat Complex as they face Oklahoma Christian at 4 p.m.
