Hillcat Softball Swept in West Texas

LUBBOCK, Texas - Rogers State softball was unable to cure its recent woes, dropping the double header to Lubbock Christian Saturday at PlainsCapital Park.

The pair of losses stretched the Hillcat skid to six straight losses. RSU dropped the first contest 7-2 then was run ruled in the second half of the twin bill 8-0 in six innings.

GAME ONE

RSU got off to an early start when Amanda Edwards doubled to right field to score Brittany White giving the Hillcats an early 1-0 lead after half an inning.

The Lady Chaparrals tied the contest in the bottom of the second with a single by Amanda Parsons scored Melissa Hartkop. LCU was held scoreless in the bottom of the third inning but put runs on the board in the next three innings.

Latainna Eltsosie's solo shot in the fourth gave LCU the lead in the home half of the fourth. RSU answered to tie the game 2-2 to start the fifth inning when Ashlie Fauchier scored on a wild pitch.

The Lady Chaps took the lead again in the bottom part of the fifth with four runs on five hits, to put the home squad up 6-2 after five . LCU put an insurance run on the board when Kim Frazier hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to put LCU ahead for the 7-2 final.

RSU went three up, three down in the top of the seventh and LCU secured game one of the double header.

Amanda Edwards (12-5) received the loss after going four innings, giving up three runs on seven hits with one walk and one strike out. Ashley Wailand pitched two innings giving up four runs on six hits with one strikeout and one walk.

Meagan Navarrette (9-0) registered the win for LCU going the complete game giving up one earned run on six hits, striking out five and walking one.

GAME TWO

The Lady Chaparrals jumped out of the starting blocks in the second contest with a four run first inning fueled by five errors by the Hillcats and just three LCU hits.

LCU added to the tally in the fourth when Frazier was walked with the bases loaded scoring Brittany Kent. An RBI single by Hartkop scored Priscilla Fagaines from third to push the LCU lead to 6-0 after four innings.

The run-rule was applied in the bottom of the sixth when the Lady Chaps started with a pair of doubles by Kayla Van Dieren and Fagaines. The double by Fagaines was an RBI scoring Van Dieren. Parsons' RBI single to shallow left scored Fagaines and gave LCU the run-rule, 8-0, victory over the Hillcats in six innings.

Amanda Edwards (12-6) recorded the loss going five and two-thirds innings giving up five earned runs on ten hits walking six and not striking out a batter.

Alyssa Freight (6-2) received the win after not giving up a run, striking out three, with one walk and giving up five hits.

Rogers State (22-13, 2-6) will next play Tuesday, March 29 on the road in Shawnee as the Hillcats face St. Gregory's with first pitch at 2 p.m.
