CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State women's basketball team snapped its two-game losing streak by pounding Mid-America Christian 89-69 at the Claremore Expo on Monday night.
Senior Hunter Peterson shined as she registered 16 points and seven assists on the night. The Jenks, Okla. native contributed six of the Hillcats nine buckets from long distance and hit 4-of-6 shots from the field.
RSU led from wire-to-wire and held a double-digit lead for most of the second half. The Lady Evangels cut the lead to nine points with fewer than eight minutes to play. However, the Cats buckled down, allowing MACU only four points over a five minute span and poured in 15 points. Cortney Crockett started the run with a conventional three-point play and Kristy Henderson ended the run with layup off a MACU turnover, putting the game out of reach for the Lady Evangels.
RSU opened the game with an 8-0 run. However, the Lady Evangels battled their way into the game with back-to-back buckets by junior Magen Roth. RSU held onto the lead throughout the first half and led 41-30 at the break.
Four Hillcats joined Peterson in double-figures scoring. Cortney Crockett led the Hillcats in scoring for the third time this season with 17 points. The Reading, Pa. product also dished out three assists and blocked one shot. Angie Criner was the only reserve to reach double figures with 15 points. Sophomore Logan Froese tallied 14 points and Andrea Miles rounded out the group with 10 points.
The Hillcats shot 53-percent from behind the arc and 57-percent from the field.
Nicole Wittman led MACU with 20 points and six rebounds. MACU shot 93-percent from the charity stripe, 26-percent from 3-point range and 44-percent from the field.
Rogers State (8-5, 2-4) will remain home on Thursday night at it welcomes St. Gregory's to the Claremore Expo. Tip time is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on RSU Radio 91.3 FM and rsuhillcats.com.
