CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State kept its winning streak rolling with a 77-67 win over Lubbock Christian on Thursday evening at the Claremore Expo.
The Lady Chaps jumped out to a 6-0 lead however, the Hillcats countered with a 6-0 run of their own to knot the score with 13: 53 to play in the half. The teams went on to tie five more times throughout the first stanza. The Hillcats led by one with 11 second to play in the period but a foul at the buzzer gave LCU a chance to take the lead going into the break. Senior Renee Wilson knocked down the first of her two free throws to leave the game lock up, 29-29, at intermission.
Senior Hunter Peterson drove down the lane and hit a running hook-shot with less than nine minutes to play to give the Cats a 53-51 advantage. The bucket ignited a 9-0 run that was capped off with a jumper by senior Cortney Crockett. The Hillcats clung to the lead for the remainder of the game and led by as many as 13 points.
LCU was able to cut the deficit to six points with 17 second to play however RSU answered with sharp-shooting from the charity stripe, hitting four free throws in the closing second.
RSU shot 82-percent from the line and 42-percent from the field. Peterson hit three of the Cats six treys on the night and Criner went 8-for-8 from the free throw line.
Four Hillcats posted double figures in the team's fourth-straight victory. RSU was led in scoring by Crockett who tied her career-high with 18 points. Junior Angie Criner followed with 16 points and Peterson added 13 points. Candice Stewart rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points while contributing eight boards and two blocked shots.
The Cats edge LCU on the boards 40-37. RSU held the Lady Chaps to shooting 33-percent from the field and 25-percent from long distance. LCU hit 88-percent of it free throws with Emily Atkins making all nine of her shots from the stripe. Atkins led the Lady Chaps in scoring with 16 points.
