CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State was unable to get past Lyon College on Friday afternoon at Soldier Field, falling 2-1 in the home opener.
The Hillcats came out strong in the first half, taking an early 1-0 lead when junior T.J. Martin scored in the 47th second of play. Junior Griffin Kane slotted the ball past the defense to Martin who found the back of the net.
Lyon (2-0-1) got the equalizer 12 minutes later. Bill Jeffries served a ball into the box and the Hillcat defense was unable to clear it out of danger. Gueorgui Tchamkoriyski headed the loose ball past Hillcat goalkeeper Sean Surridge to make it a 1-1 game.
Martel Reid-Warden recorded the game winner in the 31st minute when he caught Surridge off his line and chipped it into the net.
RSU pounded the Scots goal in the second half, out-shooting them 14-2. However, the Hillcats were unable to put the tying goal past goalkeeper Matt Kelly.
The Hillcats (0-1-1) will look to get in the win column on Tuesday, Sept. 7, as they travel to Oral Roberts University. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
