RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Rogers State's Colton West wrecked senior night for Arkansas Tech Thursday with seven RBI in the Hillcats' 9-5 victory at Tech Field in Russellville, Ark.
West turned in his best offensive performance of the spring in his first trip back to his home state. The Greenland, Ark., native homered in his first two at-bats and tied a school single-game record with seven runs batted in.
The Cats jumped out to a three-run lead with a two-out rally in the first inning. Luis Caraballo was hit by a pitch and Zach Hamby followed with a single through the left side of the infield. West put RSU on the scoreboard with a three-run blast to right-field.
Hamby walked to start the third inning and West promptly belted his second dinger of the evening to right-center. Jairo Valdez lifted a two-run homer to left-field later in the inning to make it 7-0. West added RBI singles in the fourth and sixth innings to tie the school's single game mark set by Hamby in 2008.
A trio of RSU pitchers made sure the big lead held up over nine innings. Tyler Garner worked the first three frames, allowing one unearned run on five hits. Jacob Wenaas (3-3) tossed the middle three innings and picked up the victory after giving up two runs on three hits. Jordan Clark earned his sixth save of the season by recording the final nine outs of the contest. Tech starter Zach Thomas (1-1) lasted just one inning and suffered the loss for the Wonder Boys.
West finished 4 for 5 with seven RBI and two runs scored. Catcher Lance Rymel tallied three hits for the Hillcats.
Rogers State (27-19) will travel to Branson, Mo., Friday to face College of the Ozarks in the final non-conference game of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
