Diamond Cats Walk Past Bacone College, 13-6

MUSKOGEE, Okla. - The Rogers State Hillcats took full advantage of the charity bestowed upon them by Bacone College Monday afternoon and strolled to a 13-6 victory in Muskogee, Okla.

Five Bacone pitchers combined to give up 12 walks in the contest. Nine of the 12 Hillcats who reached base via a free pass came around to score. The victory was the fourth straight for RSU and completed a season-sweep of the Warriors.

After a shaky first inning, starter Jacob Wenaas settled in for the Cats. The 6-7 lefty allowed three runs in the first before shutting Bacone down over the next four. Luis Caraballo tied the game at 3-3 with a single to right-field in the third and scored the go-ahead run on a groundout later in the inning.

Tyler Harold broke the game open with a two-run double in the fourth and Jairo Valdez added a two-run single in the fifth. Senior Rob Rodriguez put the finishing touches on the win with a towering homer to left-field in the top of the ninth inning.

The teams combined for 19 walks and seven errors in the contest. RSU outhit the Warriors, 9-4. Valdez tallied three hits and three RBI while Harold and Caraballo notched two hits apiece.

Wenaas (2-3) earned the win with five innings of work. He allowed three runs, two earned, on two hits. Josh Phillippi, Fresnly Martina and Drew Taylor combined for four innings of relief. David Pooler suffered the loss in relief for Bacone.
