Rogers State Hangs On Over Drovers, 82-74

CHICKASHA, Okla. - A dynamic performance by Sylvester Spicer led the Hillcats to victory over University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma 82-74 from USAO Fieldhouse in Chickasha, OK.

The Drovers were able to cut the score to 72-71 in advantage of the Hillcats with under three minutes remaining in the game. But a Chris Francis 3-pointer from the left wing stretched the Cats lead to four and RSU didn't look back.

USAO never seemed out of the race due to an impressive performance by Thomas Peters. The junior guard scored a game high 30 points, shooting 4-of-11 from 3-point range. Shooting 2-of-5 from behind the arc, Peters scored 19 of his points in the second period.

RSU was able to capitalize on the size advantage in the paint of Spicer and junior Theo Davis. Davis recorded career highs with 17 points and eight rebounds on the night. Spicer scored 19 second half points to finish with a team-high 26 points.

The Hillcats were outrebounded 48-39 by the Drovers led by Anthony Turner who pulled in 19 boards of his own. Fred Savoie rounded out the Drovers double-digit scorers with 20 points.

Deveric Taylor scored 15 points for the Hillcats hitting 50 percent from three point range. RSU knocked down 43 percent from behind the arc and 48 percent from the field. The Drovers shot 30 percent from 3 point range and went 77 percent from the charity stripe.

Rogers State (17-9, 10-8) will return home Thursday for the first of two games at home against West Texas opponents. The Hillcats will host Wayland Baptist at 8 p.m. and the first 500 fans through the gate will receive a free koozie courtesy of the RSU Athletic Department.
