Hillcats Hammer Lady Cavs, 75-48

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State took out all of its frustrations from a four-game losing streak on St. Gregory's Saturday night as the Hillcats posted an emphatic, 75-48, victory at the Claremore Expo.

RSU got off to a slow start before catching fire in the second half. The Cats outscored the Lady Cavs by 23 points in the second stanza to win going away. Jenny Hardin bounced back in a big way after being held to a season-low two points Thursday at Oklahoma Baptist. The Claremore native finished with a game-high 16 points to go along with six rebounds.

The Cavaliers controlled the game early on. SGU surged to a 15-5 advantage over the first six minutes of action. However, RSU answered with a 13-0 run to grab the lead. Brittani Smith capped the scoring streak with a 3-point play to make it 18-15 in favor of the Cats with 8:16 remaining in the first half. Hardin added a bucket in the final minute of the period to give RSU a 31-27 lead at the break.

The Lady Cavs managed to stay close for the first eight minutes of the second half, but the Hillcats pulled away in a hurry with a 15-0 run. Autumn Thompson dropped in a 3-pointer to make it 56-36 with 6:43 left to play. It was all RSU from that point on as the Cats shot a sizzling 58 percent from the floor after halftime. Thompson joined Hardin in double figures with 10 points. Smith chipped in with eight points off the bench.

The Hillcats' full court pressure gave the Cavaliers fits throughout the night. RSU recorded 11 steals and forced SGU into 18 turnovers. The Cats took care of the ball by posting 18 assists compared with just 11 miscues.

Rogers State (17-8, 9-8) moved into a tie for fifth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings with the victory. The Hillcats will travel to Chickasha, Okla., Monday to face USAO. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be carried live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
