No. 7 Stars Turn Away Hillcats, 85-63

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State failed to take care of the basketball and couldn't keep pace with seventh-ranked Oklahoma City as the Stars pulled away for an 85-63 victory Thursday night at the Claremore Expo.

The Hillcats wasted one of their better shooting performances of the year by committing a season-high 31 turnovers. RSU shot 50 percent from the floor, but managed only 63 points on the night. OCU's pressure defense tallied 16 steals, leading to a number of transition baskets.

Donica Cosby spurred the Stars in the first half with 20 points. The junior guard made 8 of 9 shots from the floor in the first half and finished with a game-high 29. RSU fell behind by seven points in the early going, but pulled to within one with a bucket by Jenny Hardin at the seven minute mark. OCU responded with a 10-0 run and kept the Cats at arm's length the rest of the night.

The Stars opened up a 48-31 advantage at the 15:34 mark of the second half on a jumper by Starr Fairbanks. While Cosby was the offensive centerpiece in the first period, Fairbanks did most of the damage in the second stanza. Fairbanks poured in 17 of her 21 points after halftime. OCU outscored RSU, 51-38, in the second half. The Hillcats shot 57 percent, but only put up 21 shots to the Stars' 33.

Hardin led RSU with 20 points while Autumn Thompson chipped in with four 3-pointers and 16 points. Oklahoma City improved to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play with the victory.

Rogers State (11-3, 3-3) lost to OCU for the fifth straight time and will look to rebound Saturday night against Mid-America Christian. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be carried live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
