Basketball Cats Dominate Drovers, 92-54

CLAREMORE, Okla. - If there were any questions about Rogers State's resolve to climb back into the conference race, they were answered emphatically by the Hillcats on Saturday afternoon.

Less than 48 hours removed from their worst loss of the season, the Cats came roaring back and clobbered the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, 92-54, at the Claremore Expo.

RSU fell behind 8-0 in the opening minute of the game before kicking its offense into high gear. Sophomore Joey Twilley ignited a 13-0 run and the Cats had the Drovers eating their dust before the half was through. The Hillcats outscored USAO 41-9 over the final 15 minutes of the period and took a 48-24 lead into the break.

RSU didn't take its foot off the gas in the second stanza. Alex Ewings scored a bucket at the midway point of the second half to push the advantage to 30. The lead peaked at 43 points on a John Boyd dunk with 4:44 remaining. Boyd led five RSU players in double figures with 17 points.

The Hillcat reserves outscored the USAO bench, 43-6. Chris Francis scored 13 points off the bench while Reggie Burnett and Matt Kellogg tallied 12 apiece. The RSU guards combined for 13 3-pointers in the contest. Kellogg hit 4 of 6 shots from behind the arc and Chris Francis went 3 for 4 from downtown. Deveric Taylor also got in on the act with two treys and 14 points.

Fred Savoie led USAO with 17 points. Anthony Turner added 16 and was the only other Drovers player to score more than five points. USAO shot just 31 percent from the floor and went 4 for 22 from 3-point land.

Rogers State (12-7, 5-6) snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory. The Hillcats will travel to Lubbock Christian Thursday night for the first game of a two-game road trip. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. and the game will be carried live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
