CLAREMORE, Okla. - Good things often come to those who wait.
Â
Rogers State waited almost two months to pick up its first Sooner Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of the season. Before the Hillcats could notch two victories over Oklahoma Christian they had to wait out a two and a half hour rain delay Thursday afternoon at the Hillcat Complex.
Â
When play finally resumed RSU put the finishing touches on a 5-3 victory to complete the sweep. The Cats won the opener in dramatic fashion when a walk-off grand-slam by Allison Bean gave RSU a 10-6 win.
GAME ONE
Â
The scorebook wasn't pretty, but the ending was one Allison Bean will never forget.
Â
The freshman belted her first career grand-slam over the centerfield fence in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game, 10-6. Bean's heroics erased a sloppy defensive performance by the Hillcats as they committed four errors in the contest.
Â
RSU led by scores of 3-0 and 6-3 early in the game, but squandered away both advantages with a number of defensive lapses. Two errors on the right side of the infield led to three runs for the Lady Eagles in the second inning and two miscues on the left side of the infield resulted in another tally in the sixth.
Â
The Cats led by two entering the seventh before a two-out infield single by Tracy Washam tied the game at 6-6. Lillian Nevarez drew a one-out walk to start the bottom of the seventh, Jenny Johnson followed with a single and Marie Gaudet loaded the bases with another walk. With the infield and the outfield drawn in, Bean jumped on a fastball and cranked it over the boards for the game winner.
Â
Johnson earned the win with a complete-game performance. She allowed six runs, four earned, on six hits with eight strikeouts. Linzi Farris (5-6) took the loss for OC. Nevarez, Johnson and Gaudet had two hits apiece for the Hillcats while Bean posted a career-high seven RBI.
GAME TWO
Â
The Hillcats came back from a two and a half hour rain delay to complete the sweep with a 5-3 victory in the nightcap.
Â
The game was suspended in the top of the second inning with the score tied, 2-2. Once play resumed Johnson took control with both her arm and her bat. She held the Eagles scoreless over the next three innings and crushed a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to give RSU a lead it would not relinquish.
Â
Both teams scored a run in the fifth to reach the final margin, 5-3. Johnson slammed the door on the Eagles with a perfect seventh inning to put the finishing touches on the sweep. Johnson (21-13) tossed her second complete-game of the day with three runs, two earned, on seven hits with four strikeouts. Sophia McKean (6-2) was tagged with the loss in a complete-game effort.
Â
Johnson led the RSU lineup with two hits while Megan Wood added a solo homer. Wood finished with two home runs on the afternoon. Wood and Johnson have combined for a record 19 long balls for the season.

Rogers State (23-15, 6-10) travels to Shawnee, Okla., Friday to face Oklahoma Baptist in a conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
