Diamond Cats Tame Tigers, 13-3

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State took out its frustrations from a tough weekend by drubbing Paul Quinn College (Dallas, Texas), 13-3 at the Hillcat Complex Monday.

The Hillcats plated seven runs in the bottom of the third inning and then added four more in the fourth en route to a seven-inning run-rule victory. Brandon Denton, Zach Hamby, Joe Manbodh, Travis Harold and Luis Caraballo each enjoyed multi-hit performances.

RSU starter DJ Thompson settled in after a rocky first inning. He allowed two runs on three hits in the opening frame but held the Tigers scoreless over the next three innings. Thompson (2-0) earned his second win with five strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work. Reliever Jason Travis gave up just one hit over the final 2.1 innings.

Harold's double set the table for a big inning in the third. Hamby and Manbodh followed with hard singles to left field as the Hillcats batted around. Blake Kelley singled home a run in the fourth and Caraballo added an RBI double off the center field wall. Richard McDonald took the loss for Paul Quinn. He lasted only three innings and was responsible for eight runs on five hits.

Rogers State (11-9) and Paul Quinn will complete their three-game series Tuesday afternoon at the Hillcat Complex. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
