No. 1 Rogers State Quiets the Storm, 75-55

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Crimson Storm rolled into Claremore Thursday night but it was Rogers State who brought the rain.

The top ranked Hillcats, who lead the NAIA in 3-point shooting, rained in 10 treys en route to a 75-55 win over Southern Nazarene in front of 1,077 fans at the Claremore Expo. Sophomore Deveric Taylor dropped in five long range buckets while collecting a game-high 19 points. The Hillcats remained perfect on their home floor this season and extended their current winning streak to nine games.

It took awhile for RSU to get warmed up as the Crimson Storm grabbed a 22-17 lead with 7:37 remaining in the first half. However, Taylor heated up quickly with three 3s in a two-minute span to spark a 13-0 run. The Hillcats closed the first half on a 21-3 streak and led 38-25 at the break.

The outcome was never in doubt after the intermission. Senior Abram Donlon joined the 3-point parade, burying a trey from the top of the key that capped the lead at 24 with 9:02 left to play. RSU finished the night 10-of-20 from behind the arc with five 3-pointers in each half. Junior Eric Young joined Taylor and Donlon in double figures with 14 points.

Deonta Black scored a team-high 15 points for SNU while Daniel White added 12. RSU outrebounded the Storm, 42-34 and held the visitors to just 35 percent shooting on the night.

Roderick Rodgers tied a career-high with six assists to go along with six rebounds. Spencer Schrupp added eight points and eight rebounds while Aldric Reynolds and Matt Kellogg each scored seven.

Rogers State (22-1, 16-1) and Oklahoma Baptist are now tied for first place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings with five regular season games remaining. The Hillcats will travel to Chickasha, Okla., Saturday to face the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. and the game will be carried live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
