CLAREMORE, Okla. - An inspired comeback by Rogers State came up just short as Southern Nazarene snuck out of Claremore with a 2-1 victory Friday night at Soldier Field.
Mike Bray broke a scoreless tie in the 62nd minute for the Crimson Storm. He added a second goal just four minutes later to put RSU in a deep hole. However, the Hillcats responded with 20-plus minutes of extraordinary effort in their final regular season match.
Brett Jones cut the deficit to one with a tap-in goal on a long cross pass from Henrique Sousa in the 72nd minute. RSU continued to knock on the door in the closing minutes, but to no avail. The Cats outshot the Crimson Storm, 14-13 and posted four shots on goal.
Ricky Cabello earned the win for SNU with three saves in the match. Sean Surridge tallied four saves for RSU.
Rogers State (12-5-1, 4-4-1) fell back into a tie for fifth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings following the loss. The Hillcats will now await seeding for next week's SAC Tournament.
