MUSKOGEE, Okla. - The Rogers State women's soccer team picked up right where it left off in 2007 with a 7-0 victory over Bacone College in the 2008 season opener Saturday night in Muskogee, Okla.
Â
Freshman Emily Givan scored four goals in her first collegiate start as the Hillcats had little trouble handling the Lady Warriors. Broken Arrow native Summer White put the Cats on top with the first goal of the season less than three minutes into the match. Givan followed with back-to-back goals and RSU held a comfortable 3-0 lead at the half.
Â
Senior Carrie Ritz and junior transfer Kendall Clement found the back of the net in the second half and Givan added two more goals to reach the final margin. Givan became just the third RSU player to record at least four goals in a single contest. White, sophomore Jessica May and freshman Abby Farrar each tallied two assists.
Â
Freshman goalkeeper Cat Hansmann earned the shutout with four saves in the match. Bacone managed just five total shots on the night.
Â
Rogers State (1-0) returns to action Wednesday when it host Our Lady of the Lake (San Antonio, Tex) in the home opener at Soldier Field. The match is scheduled for a noon start.
