CLAREMORE, Okla. - Oklahoma City scored four times in the third inning and bounced Rogers State 5-1 in a rain-shortened game at the Hillcat Complex Thursday.
Â
The Hillcats managed just one hit, a solo homer by Katie Bointy in the fifth inning, before the rain set in and the game was called. OCU starter Julie Harvey (8-4) was dominant through five innings of work. She tallied nine strikeouts and allowed one run with four walks.
Â
Amanda Howard homered to start the Stars fourth to give OCU a 1-0 lead. Melody Murphy followed with a single and Kasey Hobens reached on an error while attempting to sacrifice Murphy to second. Erin Slettvet then delivered the big blow with a three-run homer to left field. The Stars added a fifth run in the top of the fifth when Slettvett raced home from third on a pass ball.
Â
Bointy's one-out homer in the bottom of the fifth inning was the only highlight for the 11th ranked Hillcats on the afternoon. Kelli Dunagan (20-7) took the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) in three innings of work. With the win, fifth-ranked Oklahoma City (30-10, 18-3) remains in first place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings. No makeup date has been scheduled for Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader.

Rogers State (33-8, 12-5) will hit the road this weekend for the University of Illinois-Springfield tournament. The Cats return home Tuesday to host USAO at 3 p.m.
