RSU Soars Past Golden Eagles, 69-56

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State shot lights out before turning the lights out on its first season of basketball at the Claremore Expo Monday night.

The Hillcats drained 11 3-pointers en route to a 69-56 win over John Brown in final home game of their inaugural season. James Coats and Roderick Rodgers each tallied four treys and combined for 30 points on the night.

The Hillcats sent their lone senior, Bryson Kreuger, out with a win in front of 1,089 fans on "Senior Night" at the Expo. Krueger, who leads the team in scoring at 12.4 points per game, posted 13 points and knocked down two 3-pointers of his own in his final showing on the home floor.

Krueger gave RSU its largest lead of the first half at 27-18 on two free throws with 6:53 to play before intermission. The Golden Eagles responded with a 9-0 run to tie the game, but RSU scored final five points of the half to take a 32-27 lead into the locker room.

JBU stayed within striking distance for most of the second half. Jarrett McGriff buried a jumper with eight minutes to play to cut the lead to four, 53-49. However, the Hillcats scored the next nine points and held a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.

Rodgers led all scorers with 16 points while Coats added 14. Camaron Dearinger grabbed a team-high six rebounds and point guard Aldric Reynolds posted six assists to go along with six points.

Rogers State (16-8, 11-7) moved a half game in front of Oklahoma Baptist for fourth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings with the victory. The Hillcats will hit the road for their final four games of the regular season beginning Thursday at Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Cats and Rangers are slated to tip-off at 8 p.m. and the game will be aired live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
