Hillcats Halt Northwestern Ohio, 83-75

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Rogers State kept its perfect record intact with an 83-75 win over Northwestern Ohio (Lima, Ohio) at the Trip Sports San Antonio Shootout Friday.

The Hillcats withstood a strong second half effort from the Racers in the first of two games scheduled for RSU in San Antonio, Texas, over the weekend. Northwestern Ohio tied the game four times in the second half, but the Hillcats refused to surrender the lead. RSU scored 14 of the final 20 points in the contest to secure the victory.

Senior Aldric Reynolds scored 15 of his team-high 17 points in the first half. The Cats led by as many as 11 points in the early going as Reynolds hit 5-of-6 shots from the floor. The Racers cut the lead to six at the break and tied the game at 45-45 two minutes into the second frame. It remained a one-possession game for much of the second half.

However, RSU's relentless full court pressure defense wore the Racers down in the closing minutes. Three UNOH turnovers keyed a 10-2 run for the Hillcats to push the lead to 79-70 with 2:35 remaining. RSU swiped a season-high 13 steals and forced 17 turnovers in the win.

Senior Roderick Rodgers enjoyed his best performance of the young season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Eric Young added 15 points while sophomore Matt Kellogg tallied 10 points, including three 3-pointers.

Northwestern Ohio (3-5) sophomore Kyle Gillette led all scorers with 23 points. The Racers kept the outcome in doubt until the final minutes by shooting 48 percent from the floor.

Rogers State (5-0) will take Saturday off before facing Bellevue University (Bellevue, Neb.) in the final game of the San Antonio Shootout Sunday. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. and live video streaming of the game is available for a fee at www.tripsports.com.
