RSU Women Clip Coyotes, 67-64

LINDSBORG, Kan. - Hayley KnifeChief hit big shots and Yoda Woods sank key free throws as Rogers State picked up its first road win Friday night over Kansas Wesleyan at Hahn Gymnasium in Lindsborg, Kan.
 

KnifeChief poured in 11 second half points while Woods hit 11-of-14 free throws, including her last six, to preserve a 67-64 victory on the first day of the Kansas Wesleyan Classic. KnifeChief finished with 15 points and six rebounds. Woods recorded her double-double with 15 points and 13 boards.
 

The Hillcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead and were in control for the first eight minutes until LaCole Wilkinson knocked down a three to give the Coyotes their first lead, 16-15. It marked first of 10 lead changes in the contest. RSU came storming back and mounted a 29-21 advantage on a transition basket by Katie Rice with 2:40 left in the first half. KWU's Jennifer Lee drained a three pointer right before the half time buzzer to make it a three point game, 29-26.
 

Charressa Gray regained the lead for KWU on a 15 foot jumper from the baseline that made it 34-32 with 15:45 remaining in the contest. The Hillcats then went on a 7-0 run capped by two made free throws by Woods.
 

Emily Luckeroth kept the Coyotes in the game with 15 second half points. Luckeroth hit a three with 7:16 left in the game to make it 49-46. Lee drilled a three to reclaim the lead for KWU, 57-56, with 3:33 left. The two teams would exchange leads five more times before KnifeChief put the Cats on top for good with a steal and a layup with 1:12 remaining. The Claremore freshman added another layup with 22 seconds left to play to make it 64-61 and RSU held on for the win as Woods knocked down two key free throws in the final seconds.
 

Rogers State (2-1) returns to Hahn Gymnasium Saturday afternoon to face Bethany College at 4 p.m. The game can be heard live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
