Hillcats Hammer Swedes on Homecoming, 116-62

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State opened the game on a 25-0 run and put on a show for a Homecoming crowd of 1,387 en route to a 116-62 victory over Bethany College at the Claremore Expo Center Saturday afternoon.

The Hillcats put up 63 first half points led by senior Bryson Krueger with 15. Krueger opened the flood gates on the first possession of the game by knocking down a three from the top of the key. After Eric Young slashed to the basket and scored, Krueger ripped the ball away from Bethany and slammed it home to make it 7-0 one minute into the contest. Roderick Rodgers and Young followed with back-to-back thunderous dunks and the Swedes trailed by 25 before they even knew what hit them.

Krueger, Young and Rodgers combined for 41 first half points as several other Cats got in on the scoring act in the second half. Sophomore Sylvester Spicer came off the bench to score 16 points after the break and finished with 20. Five RSU players finished with at least ten points, led by Krueger with 23. Spicer put an emphatic exclamation point on the Homecoming celebration with an alley-oop slam to break the century mark, 101-43. The Hillcats would add 15 more points in the final six minutes while their starters watched from the bench.

RSU shot 55-percent from the field for the game and knocked down 22-of-25 free throws. Rogers State improved to 2-0 on the season and will take the next six days off before hitting the road for the first time next weekend. The Hillcats will compete in the Kansas Wesleyan Classic next Friday and Saturday in Salina, Kan. RSU will face KWU on Friday at 8 p.m. and Bethany on Saturday at 4 p.m. Both games can be heard live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
