TOPEKA, Kan. – Rogers State baseball (23-18, 11-17 MIAA) fell 12-1 in the series opener to Washburn (26-18, 18-10 MIAA) on Friday.

After both starters worked a scoreless frame to open the game, the Ichabods got on the board with three runs in the second inning. A sacrifice fly to center brought in the first run with a fielding error by the second baseman allowing two more runs to score.

WU added to their lead in the third with a two-run blast to right to go up 5-0.

They broke the game open in the fourth as they pushed across four runs to extend the margin to 9-0. Another two-run shot to center and a two RBI double to left plated the runs.

The Hillcats got a run back in the top of the fifth to cut into the deficit 9-1.
Ramon Torres led off with a single to left and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. A ground out to short moved him to third with one out.
Carson Cheatwood drove Torres in with a single to left center.

The Ichabods closed out the game in the seventh with three final runs to seal the 12-1 game with a three-run homer to center.

Jack Brimacombe (4-2) earned the win.
Rece Parker (5-3) took the loss.

RSU will look to rebound in the second game of the series tomorrow. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
