EMPORIA, Kan. – The Rogers State baseball team split a doubleheader at Emporia State on Saturday afternoon at the Trusler Sports Complex on Glennon Field.
GAME ONE
Rogers State 0, Emporia State 10

How It Happened
- Neither team could get on the board in the opening two innings, and the Hillcats were only able to manage one hit in the first two innings.
- Emporia State would get on the board in the bottom of the third with three hits and three runs. The first two were scored on singles, while the last was on a squeeze bunt.
- Rogers State would load the bases in the fourth after Mason Harvey was hit by a pitch with Jonathan Soto on second and Skyler Nelson on third. However, the Hornets would get out of the jam with a strikeout.
- The Hornets would put together a five-run fifth inning to extend their lead to eight. A three-run home run started the scoring with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly following later in the inning.
- In the bottom of the seventh, the Hornets would add to two more runs to trigger the run-rule victory.
Game Notes
- Nelson went 2-for-3 from the plate, the only Hillcat to reach base twice in the game.
- Brandon Bradshaw and Victor Ceniceros recorded the only other hits for the Hillcats.
- Karalius picked up the loss on the mound. He gave up five runs and had only one strikeout.
- Emporia State had 11 hits compared to just four hits for the Hillcats. The Hornets also worked six walks, while the Hillcats had just one in the game.
GAME TWO

How It Happened
- The Hornets struck first with a run in the second inning off of a Hillcat wild pitch.
- Rogers State would have a big fourth inning, as they would put together six runs off of six hits.
- Harvey put the Hillcats on the board with a two RBI single up the middle, sending in Bradshaw and Nelson.
- In the next at bat, Soto hit a single up the middle to send Jerry Davis and extend the lead to 3-1.
- Ethan Rivera then singled to left field to bring around Harvey.
- Ceniceros singled on a squeeze bunt to the right side that allowed Soto to score from third and then came around to score two batters later on a RBI double to left field by Preston Horn.
- Harvey hit his third home run of the series to begin the fifth inning. Soto would add another run for the Hillcats later in the inning after Ceniceros grounded out to the short stop, allowing Soto in from third.
- In the sixth inning, Harvey would hit an RBI double to send around Bradshaw and Nelson for the game's final two runs.
- Rogers State would hold onto the lead to trigger the run-rule victory over Emporia State in the seventh inning.
Game Notes
- Harvey went 3-for-4 from the plate, falling a triple shy of the cycle. He would also have five RBI's.
- Bradshaw would also have three hits and reached base safely in all four appearances, as he also had a hit-by-pitch. Bradshaw scored two runs.
- Murphy recorded the win for the Hillcats on the mound. He allowed one run and had seven strikeouts in six innings.
- Soto and Horn each recorded a pair of hits. Soto had two RBIs and two runs scored. Horn finished with an RBI.
- Rogers State finished with 13 hits, while Emporia State was limited to just five hits in the game.
- With the win, the Hillcats clinched their third series victory of the season.

After three-straight MIAA road trips, the Hillcats return home to the Diamond Sports Complex to take on Pittsburg State in a three-game series next Friday and Saturday. Rogers State is set to begin the series with a single game Friday, April 2, with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
