LUBBOCK, Texas – The Rogers State men's soccer team erased a two-goal deficit in the second half on a pair of goals from
Danko Kenjic but allowed two late goals falling 5-3 at Lubbock Christian Saturday afternoon in Heartland Conference action at LCU Soccer Field.
Kenjic contributed to all three Hillcat goals during a career-high five point day and doubled his goal total for the season in four minutes of the second half tying the match 3-3.
The Chaps struck for an early lead getting on the scoreboard in the 8th minute on a Lennard Hansen tally but that lead did not last long.
Edward Hubbard scored his first goal of the season getting the equalizer for the Hillcats in the 22nd minute taking a pass from Kenjic before putting a shot past LCU goalkeeper Tim Saucedo evening the match 1-1.
An own goal by RSU in the 39th minute followed by a goal from the Chaps' Tommy Fogarty with 55 seconds remaining before halftime gave LCU a comfortable 3-1 advantage at the halftime break.
The Hillcats came out on the attack starting the second stanza with Kenjic recording two goals in a span of less than four minutes getting RSU back into the contest tied 3-3 in the 58th minute.
Necas Collins picked up his team-leading fifth assist on Kenjic's first goal of the match closing in on the all-time assists record.
LCU quickly regained the lead just 55 seconds after the Kenjic tally and added an insurance marker in the 73rd minute on Fogarty's second of the day giving the home squad the 5-3 victory. The Chaps remain unbeaten over their last six matches and a perfect 4-0 in the Heartland Conference.
Mitchell Penton started the match in goal for the Hillcats allowing three goals making two saves while
Joey Arnold came on for the second half allowing two goals suffering the loss making two saves. Saucedo earned the win in goal for LCU turning aside four shots.
RSU (5-8 overall, 1-3 HC) ends its road swing Monday taking on Texas-Permian Basin for a conference matchup scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
