CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State men's soccer claimed its second Heartland Conference win of the season off a pair of goals by sophomore Kaspars Kokis as the Hillcats topped McMurry 4-0 at Soldier Field Monday afternoon.
Kokis struck quickly with a goal as the War Hawks goal keeper was unable to corral a Niall Masterson shot attempt. The goal off the deflection was his third of the season coming just 2:50 into the rain soaked game.
Just nine minutes again it was the Owasso High School product Kokis finding the back of the net this time off an assist by Necas Collins across the face of the goal. The goal was the second for Kokis in the game and his team high fourth of the season.
RSU wasn't finished in the opening stanza as a Mitchell Sowerby free kick from 20 yards out found the foot of Devin Zvosec who delivered a volley past the War Hawks keeper in the 31st minute for his first goal of the season. The Hillcats took the 3-0 lead into the intermission.
In the 60th minute Walter Hubbard found the feet of Dylan Beaird who took one touch and delivered a bending ball to the back post, upper 90 from 20 yards out for the Cats fourth goal of the game.
Joey Arnold (4-4-1) earned the victory for the Hillcats as he saw 65 minutes of action in the start. Arnold along with Mitchell Penton gave RSU its third shutout of the season. Neil O'Sullivan moved to 2-6-0 with the McMurry (3-7-1, 2-2-0) loss.
Rogers State (4-6-1, 2-2-0) will face Texas-Permian Basin on Saturday, October 19 at Soldier Field. Game time is set for 5 p.m. with live video streaming provided on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
