Hillcats End Season at SAC Tournament

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State men's soccer team ended its season on Saturday night as Oklahoma Baptist registered a 4-0 win over the Hillcats in the opening round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at Soldier Field.

Steven Baker registered a near miss in the opening minutes of the game as he ran onto a ball chipped over the defense and poked it past the keeper. However, an OBU defender slid into the goal, keeping it from crossing the goal line.

Victor Costa matched his season total for goals scored tonight as he tallied a hat trick to lead the Bison past the Hillcats. He put OBU on the board in the fifth minute of the game finding the back of the net from 30 yards out. His second goal came in the 30th minute. There was a scramble at the top of the box and the ball landed at his feet. He collected the ball and fired it in the net.

OBU took a 2-0 lead at the break, outshooting the Cats 9-8. The Bison controlled much of the second half, sealing the win with a goal by Tito Silva in the 58th minute. Silva scored his third goal of the night and completed his hat trick in the 78th minute. OBU fired 15 shots in the second half while RSU took just four shots.  Hillcat keeper Nathan Inger made five saves while allowing four goals in the loss. Marcus Oliveria earned the win in goal for OBU.

The Hillcats completed the year second overall in the Sooner Athletic Conference regular season standings, their highest finish in program history. They made their sixth consecutive postseason appearance and tallied their sixth straight winning season.

Four seniors completed their careers with the RSU men's soccer team. Inger, Gary Arauz, Bryan Jones and Grant Smith each made instrumental contributions to the team.
