Hillcats Rout McPherson, 4-0

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State men's soccer team used four different goal scorers to top McPherson College (Kan.) 4-0 at Soldier Field on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Des Fitzgerald put the Hillcats on the board in the 19th minute of the game. The Norwich, England native dribbled down the line and cut in toward the goal, Fitzgerald saw the goalkeeper was off his line and chipped the ball over his head and into the net. The goal was his first of the year.

Carlos Zuta added his first goal of the season just before halftime, giving the Hillcats a 2-0 advantage. Fitzgerald took a shot and the goalkeeper deflected it right to Zuta's feet at the top of the box. Zuta sent a shot far post past goalkeeper Blake Jett.

TJ Martin tallied his third goal of the season in the 46th minute. The Hillcats had several shots blocked before Martin was able to put the ball over the goal line during a scramble.

Junior Ryan Coffman rounded out the scoring in style. Sophomore Justin Freisen drove a ball through traffic across the face of the goal to Coffman who was standing on the back post and flicked the ball behind his leg and into the goal.

RSU tallied 13 shots on goal and held the Bulldogs to four. Seniors Sean Surridge and Nikola Samac split time in goal, earning the shutout victory.

The Hillcats (4-1-1) kick-off a five-game road stint on Monday, Sept. 18 against Avila College (Kan.) at 4 p.m.
