Fitzgerald Lifts Cats with Late Heroics, 1-0

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State needed a spark and sophomore Des Fitzgerald delivered.

Scoreless for over 200 consecutive minutes, the Hillcats appeared headed for a second consecutive 0-0 draw as they battled St. Gregory's Tuesday night at Soldier Field. The frustration of being repeatedly kept out of the net turned to jubilation in an instant as Fitzgerald scored the game winning goal with less than two minutes to play in regulation.

Fitzgerald scored from deep in the box after Griffin Kane redirected a cross just enough to allow his teammate a chance to push it past Cavs goalie Andres Pozo. Reigning Sooner Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week Sean Surridge came up with two huge saves in the final 90 seconds to preserve the win.

It marked the fourth straight shutout for Surridge and the sixth straight for the Cats overall. RSU has not allowed a goal since suffering its only loss at Lindenwood University Sept. 12.

Rogers State (7-1-1, 1-0) will take a week off before returning to conference play next Tuesday at Oklahoma Christian. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
